How you spend your working life is usually one of the top priorities on most people’s lists, yet studies show that more than eight out of ten people don’t like what they do for a living.
A Gallup poll covering 140 countries, showed that 67% of people are ‘not engaged’ in their work – or are simply not motivated and are unlikely to exert extra effort – while another 24% are ‘actively disengaged’ or truly unhappy and unproductive.
So if you’re among the people who don’t look forward to waking up on a workday, and don’t get out of bed every morning excited about the possibilities of what could happen that day, then make sure you read this blog until the end and follow the 3-steps below to turning your passion into multiple income streams.
Step 1: Discover what your passion is
If you currently don’t enjoy what you do as a career, but do it because you need to pay the bills or because “the money is good”, it’s actually not your fault.
The reason is… You’ve been taught wrong, hypnotised, and told all the wrong things. Chances are, the education system, the media, some of your friends, even some family members, have all had a negative impact on your life.
The truth is… when you were born you were absolutely clear on what you wanted in life and you refused to let anyone or anything stand in your way of getting to it. Then, as you grew older, you started being programmed with phrases such as:
- Who do you think you are?
- Money doesn’t grow on trees
- You should be ashamed
As a result of this programming, most people grow up becoming compliant to the demands of others. The spontaneity and dreams they had as children have been suppressed or completely lost. By their late teens they are doing things that adults want them to do and, such as choosing a ‘secure job’ instead of pursuing their passion, their true interests.
So now for the good news…
How do you change all that? Simple!
You first find your life’s mission.
What is it in your past that you enjoyed doing more than anything, and that you loved so much that you’d do it for free if given the opportunity? Think back to the things in your life that gave you the most joy and happiness, and made you feel the best. These are the areas in which you will find your life’s mission and true successful career.
Many people don’t consider that they can make a great living or become rich by doing what they love. Nothing could be further from the truth. Once you discover what your life’s mission is, you will find the way.
You may say ‘I love socialising with people and talking. How can I do that for a living?”
Well, Jay Leno, David Letterman, Michael Parkinson and Oprah Winfrey loved that too.
Maybe you think “I really love making my home a beautiful place to be.” Well, so did Martha Stewart.
Sure, these people have become wildly successful and very wealthy, but each began as an unknown person who pursued the thing they loved to do the most and would do it for free.
Think of the tens of thousands of people who are not famous but who make a very successful living out of these same pursuits. Remember, these people all began from nothing.
- Lain Ehmann had a passion for scrapbooking, and to cut a long story short, she turned her passion into a 6 figure business within 3 years.
- Lauren Bath was a chef with a passion for photography. She quit her job and now makes a full time living from her passion thanks to the internet.
- Shaun McBride always had a passion for art and travelling, and now he makes a full time living from uploading his drawings online while travelling the world.
Maybe you enjoy eating out at nice restaurants, reading books and magazines, going to parties and dance clubs, watching movies, listening to or playing music, meeting new people, surfing the net, playing sports, or shopping. Well, thousands of people get paid to do those things.
When I was at school I loved telling jokes. In fact, one of my teachers once said I should pursue a career as a ‘professional smartass’. And that’s exactly what I have done for over 40 years. And now, whatever I do that brings me revenue, never feels like work. Instead, it’s fun, and I genuinely look forward to any day of the week.
Step 2: Activate your RAS
The RAS, also known as the Reticular Activating System is a bunch of neural fibres in the brain.
You see, the brain processes over 400 million bits of information every second but only 2,000 bits can be processed consciously. The rest is processed without your awareness.
In other words, 99.0000% of the information presented to you goes unnoticed.
And thanks to your RAS you can deal with everyday life and the millions of bits of information flooding into your awareness and demanding your attention.
So we’ve been given the RAS, the equipment to filter all information and to extract only what is important to us at any given time.
Your RAS has a built in GPS system. With a GPS you need to decide where you want to go, not how you will get there. In exactly the same way, once you’ve decided on what you want, your RAS will begin to see everything connected with it. If you veer off course, it re-routes you.
If you want your RAS to work for you, then you must program it to watch out for what you want, not for what you don’t want. When you program a specific idea or a goal into your RAS, it doesn’t matter whether you’re asleep or awake, or whether you’re thinking about it or not. The RAS will find precisely what you’ve told it to find, just like the search function on a computer.
So, if there’s something you want right now (regardless of how big, how small, how exciting or boring), right it down and let your RAS do the rest.
Step 3: Leverage the internet
Right now, there is no doubt that the internet is the fastest and probably among the easiest ways to monetize what you are passionate about.
If you enjoy arts and crafts for example, you can easily list them on sites such as ebay.com or etsy.com for a few dollars.
If you are passionate about natural health and would love to help people restore their health naturally, why not create a webinar about it? All you need to do is put a powerpoint presentation together and use tools such as gotowebinar.com or zoom.com which will allow you to deliver your presentation to hundreds and even thousands of people from the comfort of your own home. These people can either pay to access your webinar, or you can promote products at the end of your free webinar.
If you enjoy writing, why not start a blog? A lot of bloggers have become very wealthy thanks to their blogs. When you blog consistently, you start building an audience of readers and advertisers will start paying you to advertise their products on your blog.
If you love talking to people and learning about specific topics, why not start a podcast where you interview experts on a topic that interests you? Once your podcast starts getting a lot of listeners, you can monetize it by either promoting products to listeners or getting paid by advertisers to mention their products and services during your podcast.
There are thousands of ways you can leverage the power of the internet to start profiting from your passion. And best of all, you can start as soon as now, and with no investment at all or very little upfront costs.
